KC Tour Riders Spring Fling 2010

Had a great time this weekend near Weston Missouri at Weston Bend State Park. This is near Kansas City and about 30 miles south of St. Jo.

We ended up with 13 people out of chapter I, 5 people out of chapter J, 4 people out of chapter P, and two from a chapter in Nebraska. We even picked up one additional rider, a friend of Don Reeves who happens to live in that area.

Weather going down on Friday was a bit windy and chilly but not so bad as to spoil a good ride. Weather for Saturday turned out to be absolutely perfect. Sunny and warm but not hot. They had two different rides to go on, same sort of ride, just different directions. We went on the southwest ride and it was a very nice ride. Lots of good scenery. One drawback was some idiot who ruined a good part of the ride for the rest of us by showing up with a fuel tank almost empty. After we got to the first rest stop, we had to change the route to allow him to go get fuel. The leader then had to make changes to get us back on track and that meant we went through towns on some less than scenic roads. The last part of the ride turned out to be a good ride also. I think the whole ride would have been great had it not been for one bad egg. After the ride, they had the bike show, awards from the poker run (Pam got $50 for lowest hand) and some conversation time. They had the 50/50 drawing, a raffle for a leather jacket and 4 items were auctioned off. 3 gift certificates to some motorcycle parts houses and one to a local bed and breakfast. I won the bid on the B&B. Will make for a good stay to go back to that area and do some more snooping around. After this they drew for door prizes. I ended up with 4 winning tickets I believe and came home with some good stuff.

After all this, they served us a very nice meal. Some people got some cold food but all in all, it was a very good and plentiful dinner. Much like when we put on a potluck. More food than an army can eat.

The hospitality and friendship of the host group and the participants was great. I highly recommend attending this event next year if you can make it. Even if you don't participate with the groups days activities, you can find some fun things to do. Weston has a lot to do and Platte City where we stayed was a neat little town. Lots of great roads and things to do.

Ride home Sunday was good. Overcast and not as warm but not near as bad as on the way down. We came home on Hwy. 169, splitting off as required. That route really didn't take much longer to get home and it was much more scenic.

All in all, it was a great weekend spent with good friends having a great time. Everyone got home safe and sound and that is the perfect ending to a truly fun weekend.
